Three SAC Men’s Soccer Players Named To NSCAA/adidas All-America Team
MISSION, Kan. -- Three men's soccer players from the South Atlantic Conference were named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Men's Division II All-America Team.
Wingate University senior defender Ben Clark was named to the second team. Lincoln Memorial University sophomore forward Leandro Pereira and Carson-Newman College defender Thomas Ostvold were named to the third team.
Clark (Chesterfield, England) earned his third All-South Atlantic Conference award this year. In 2007, he was named to the All-SAC first team. In 2005, he earned All-SAC second team laurels.

At Lenoir-Rhyne, Clark was selected to the first team in 2004.
Earlier this month, Ben Clark was named to the Daktronics All-Appalachian Region Men's Soccer second team. The Daktronics All-Appalachian Region Men's Soccer teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). On Monday, he was selected to the fifth annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State team.
Clark is a two-time All-Appalachian Region first team selection, as named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). His leadership has been crucial for the Bulldogs, as Wingate started as many as eight freshmen in 2007.
Thanks to the efforts of Ben Clark and his Bulldog defensive teammates, Wingate (16-5-1 overall) allowed only 31 goals this season.
Thomas Ostvold |
The Bulldogs qualified for the 2007 NCAA Division II Appalachian Region Men's Soccer tournament this year, Wingate's second appearance in the big dance.
Pereira ranked fifth in points per game and eighth in goals per game in Division II, guiding Lincoln Memorial to a 20-4-1 record and a berth in the national finals. The sophomore forward leads the Railsplitters with 23 goals and 55 points. Pereira was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and Daktronics Appalachian Region Player of the Year and Daktronics All-America Player of the Year.
Ostovld scored two goals on the season and was the anchor of an Eagle defense that held opponents to just 13 goals all season. Storhaug and Cooke led the Eagles with seven goals while Flores added a goal and an assist.
