Lenoir-Rhyne’s Wesley Spurr named MVP of Food Lion SAC Men’s Soccer Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne College freshman forward Wesley Spurr, who helped the Bears win the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, was named the tournament's most valuable player.
Spurr (Charlotte, N.C./Harding University HS) scored an unassisted goal in a semifinal win over Wingate.
Other members of the All-Tournament Team from Lenoir-Rhyne were goalkeeper Mark Jorgensen, Gary Higgins and Ged Quinn. Jorgensen had seven saves in the championship match against Carson-Newman and allowed just one goal in the three tournament matches. Higgins had two goals in the semifinal win over Wingate, and added one goal in the championship against Carson-Newman. Quinn, the SAC Co-Player of the Year, achored a Lenoir-Rhyne defense that allowed one goal in the tournament.
Making the All-Tournament team from Carson-Newman were Thomas Ostvold, Phillip Grossmiller and Everardo Flores.
Semifinalists Wingate and Catawba each placed two on the All-Tournament Team. Making the squad from Wingate were Kerrin Sheldon and Matt Capasso. Catawba's representatives were Nathan Zuzga and Garth McCormack.
