Academic All-District Honorees Named; TC’s Eddo, Fliesser on Soccer Teams
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College midfielder Alexander Eddo and defender Denise Fliesser have been named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division First Teams announced College officials Thursday morning.
This marks the second straight year Fliesser has been named to the Academic All-District, earning Second Team honors last season. Both now advance to the Academic All-America® national ballot, which will be announced later this month.
Eddo, a senior from Brown Hill, Nevies, West Indies, has played in 10 matches, including one start for the Pioneers, accounting for a pair of goals and an assist for his five points. He has a 3.40 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Pre-Medicine. He has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Tusculum is 12-2-2 and is the No. 3 seed in this year's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The Pioneers, ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, advanced to the semifinals following Wednesday's 3-0 home win over sixth-seeded Presbyterian College. TC will face No. 2 seed Catawba College in a semifinal match at 2:30 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
Fliesser, a junior from London, Ontario, Canada, has started in 16 matches for the Pioneers this season, recording three goals and three assists for her nine points on the year. She was honored earlier this week, being named the 2004 South Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for women's soccer, becoming the first player in the program's history to earn that prestigious honor.
She was named to the 2004 All-SAC Second Team as the Pioneers are 13-3-1, including Tuesday's 5-0 win over Mars Hill College in the opening round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. Tusculum claimed a share of this year's SAC title and is the top seed in the tournament.
Fliesser has a 4.00 cumulative grade point average majoring in Physical Education. Her honors include: 2003-04 Duffield Award winner, presented to the top Tusculum female student-athlete for academic achievement and was the co-recipient of the 2002-03 Tusculum College Female Freshman of the Year Academic Award. The Pope John Paul II High School graduate is also a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
The Pioneers, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, will face tournament host and No. 5 seed Presbyterian College this Friday at 4 p.m. in Clinton, S.C.
The Academic All-District team is selected by members of the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from
institutions within District IV, which includes the states of
Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
