ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- It will be the No. 1 team in the nation against the No. 2 team in the nation as Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne advance to the 2024 SAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday at the Matthews SportsPlex in Matthews, N.C. at 4 p.m. The Saints dropped 24 goals on Newberry in the semifinal while LR outlasted Wingate 11-10 in double overtime on a goal from Ryan Duncan.
#1 Limestone Stays Perfect in SAC Semifinals
Gaffney, S.C. -- The No. 1 ranked Limestone Saints moved to 16-0 on the season with a 24-13 defeat of No. 8 Newberry on Wednesday afternoon in the 2024 SAC Men's Lacrosse Semifinals. Jason Thomfohrde erupted for a career-high eight goals and an assist while Nate Senez dished out four assists. Limestone's offense cranked out 68 shots, with 42 on goal, en route to dropping 24 goals.
Dillons's Double OT Goal Sends #2 Bears Past #6 Wingate
Hickory, N.C. -- Caison Dillon scored with 54 seconds left in double overtime as the No. 2 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears improved to 14-1 and handed No. 6 Wingate its third one-goal loss of the season. LR only scored twice in the first half before erupting for four goals in each of the third and fourth quarters. The Bears trailed 9-7 with 11:14 left in the fourth quarter before rallying to take a 10-9 lead. Wingate drew even at 10 with 3:40 to play. Neither team could figure out the opposing goalies in the end of regulation and the first OT before Dillon's winner. Rob Pensabene finished with 17 saves while Thomas Sullivan added 20 stops for the Bulldogs.
