Bears Knock Out Defending National Champs
TAMPA, FLA. -- Lenoir-Rhyne took out defending National Champion Tampa in the First Round of the 2023 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The two teams have met in the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three years with LR advancing past the Spartans twice in that span. Wingate's comeback bid comes up just short against UIndy in NCAA Tourney opener
Wingate, N.C.----Trailing by four with under three minutes remaining, the sixth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs scored three times in a 68-second span to pull to within one, then had a chance in the final minute to tie it, but third-ranked UIndy was able to hang on for an 11-10 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Division II men's lacrosse South Regional. The Greyhounds improve to 12-3 overall, while the Bulldogs end their season at 12-3. The regular season SAC champion Bulldogs were making their fifth NCAA Tourney appearance in the last six years, hosting their first-ever NCAA Tourney contest.
The Bears will move on to play top-seeded Rollins on Sunday at Rollins, while Limestone will host UIndy. Both games are slated for a 1 p.m. start time.
