Lincoln Memorial Earns GCAA All-Academic Team Recognition
NORMAN, Okla. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team earned Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team recognition for the 2016-17 academic year, it was announced on Wednesday. In order to be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team consideration, teams must submit the grade-point averages for each player on its official squad list and post a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Lincoln Memorial was one of 187 programs from either the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, the NAIA, or the NJCAA Division I and Division II to earn GCAA All-Academic Team status. The Railsplitters were the lone South Atlantic Conference school to achieve the distinction and one of 41 NCAA II representatives on the list.
The Railsplitters had eight student-athletes land on the 2016-17 SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll by maintaining a GPA of 3.30 or higher. That group included Tyler Bohanan, Andrew Briggs, Sam Broadhurst, Kurtis Campbell, Brady Davis, Ray Gordon, Tyler Harvey and Garrett Tucker.
It was also a banner year on the course for Lincoln Memorial, who won a single-season program record five tournaments and finished inside the top five in eight of its 10 regular-season events. The Railsplitters also notched the program's highest finish in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional by taking 13th place in a field that featured 16 of the nation's top 20 teams.
Broadhurst was a standout both in the classroom and on the links for the Railsplitters. Along with earning a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, the sophomore was lauded with Division II All-Southeast Region and All-American merits for posting the lowest single-season scoring average in program history
