Mathis Announced as Coordinator of Officials for Men's Basketball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (thesac.com) -- South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz has announced the hiring of Barry Mathis as the league's coordinator of men's basketball officials. Mathis brings nearly 50 years of officiating experience, including 36 years as a DII official, to the position.
Mathis' responsibilities include recruiting and training men's basketball officials for the South Atlantic Conference. Other duties consist of assigning and evaluating officials, rules applications and conducting clinics for the officials.
"We are very excited and fortunate to hire Barry as our new Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officials," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "I am confident that Barry's experience and knowledge will help the SAC elevate the level and quality of officiating in our conference."
Mathis has an extensive background in officiating. In his career, he has officiated the First and Second Rounds of the NIT Tournament, the NAIA Division II and III National Championship games and the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Game. Additionally, he has worked the Southern Conference, Gulf South Conference and South Atlantic Conference Tournaments. He is currently a staff member in the Missouri Valley, Conference USA, Southern Conference, Ohio Valley, Appalachian Athletic and the Tennessee Community College Athletic Associations.

Mathis has been a co-coordinator and assigning officer for 31 years and has been a sports official for 49 years. His current supervisory experience is in the Appalachian Athletic Conference along with the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association as well as the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. He previously had supervisory experience in the Great South Athletic Conference.
