Three SAC Men’s Basketball Players Earn DII Bulletin All-America Accolades
The 2012 Division II Bulletin men's basketball All-American Team was announced on Tuesday night, with Anderson guard Denzail Jones being named to the Second Team and Mars Hill guard Sammy Emile and Lincoln Memorial forward Desmond Johnson earning Honorable Mention accolades.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The 2012 Division II Bulletin men's basketball All-American Team was announced on Tuesday night, with Anderson guard Denzail Jones being named to the Second Team and Mars Hill guard Sammy Emile and Lincoln Memorial forward Desmond Johnson earning Honorable Mention accolades.
Jones, the 2011-12 SAC Player of the Year and 2012 Food Lion SAC Championship MVP, finished fourth in the conference in scoring at 17.5 points per-game, leading Anderson to the NCAA Championship Southeast Regional Final.
He scored a SAC Championship-record 50 points in a double-overtime victory over Newberry in the tournament's semifinals - finishing one point shy of the all-time league record.
Jones also led the SAC in steals, finished fifth in assists average and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio. He is one of just two juniors on the DII Bulletin All-America First or Second Team - with the other eight honorees all being seniors.
AU ended the season at No. 14 in the NABC/NCAA national rankings.
Emile was the nation's highest scorer this season, averaging 25 points per-game for Mars Hill. The senior also finished sixth in the SAC in steals, seventh in assists and 11th in rebounding, earning All-Conference First Team accolades.
Johnson - one of the SAC's most well-rounded players - helped Lincoln Memorial climb to the top of the NABC/NCAA national rankings midway through the season and earn a bid to the NCAA Championship.
The senior averaged 10.8 points per-game for LMU, and finished second in the SAC in defensive rebounding, third in field goal percentage and fourth in total rebounding. He was also an All-SAC First Team selection.
The Railsplitters were ranked No. 24 in the final NABC national poll.
Alaska-Anchorage forward Taylor Rohde was named the Division II Bulletin National Player of the Year.
