Mars Hill’s Emile, Anderson’s Jones Earn Men’s Basketball All-Region Honors
MORROW, Ga. - The 2011-12 Daktronics Division II men's basketball All-Southeast Region Team was announced on Wednesday, with Mars Hill's Sammy Emile being named to the First Time and Anderson's Denzail Jones earning second-team honors.
Emile, a senior from Lake Worth, Fla., led the nation in scoring this season at 25 points-per-game, earning All-SAC First Team honors. He also ranked fourth in the SAC in assists, seventh in steals and 11th in rebounding.
Emile's best game of the season came on January 11 against Lincoln Memorial, where he poured in 50 points - one shy of the all-time SAC record.
Jones, the 2011-12 SAC Player of the Year, has had an excellent all-around year for SAC regular season-champion Anderson. The junior finished fifth in the league in scoring, first in steals, seventh in assists and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio, helping AU go 24-5 overall and 17-1 in conference play.
He put on a show in the 2012 SAC Basketball Championship semifinals, scoring a tournament-record 50 in a double-overtime win over Newberry - a performance that ultimately earned him the event's Most Valuable Player award. The Trojans fell in the championship game to Wingate, but still earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament, which gets underway on Saturday.
Lander's Dwight Tolbert was selected as the Southeast Region's Player of the Year.
