Anderson, LMU, Wingate Earn Bids to NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA announced its selections for the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship on Sunday night, with SAC schools Anderson, Lincoln Memorial and Wingate earning bids.
Anderson, the SAC regular-season champion, is the Southeast Region's No. 3 seed, LMU is the No. 4 seed, and SAC Tournament champion Wingate is the region's No. 7 seed.
All of the region's games will take place at top-seeded Montevallo.
The Trojans, who are currently 24-5 on the season and fell to Wingate in the SAC Championship final, will take on sixth-seeded Columbus St. in the tournament's first round. Columbus St. is 18-11 on the season and finished second in the Peach Belt's west division.
AU was ranked 16th in last week's NCAA/NABC national poll.
Lincoln Memorial enters the NCAA Championship with a record of 25-5. The Railsplitters, ranked 17th in last week's national poll, finished second in the SAC regular-season standings.
LMU will take on No. 5 seed King out of Conference Carolinas, which is currently 23-7 overall.
Wingate earned the SAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament by capturing this week's Food Lion SAC Basketball Championship. The Bulldogs closed out the season on a tear, winning 10 of its last 11 games.
Overall, Wingate is 20-11 on the season. The Bulldogs will take on No. 2 seed USC-Aiken, which went 21-7 this season and won the Peach Belt's east division title.
The 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship will get underway on Saturday, March 10.
