Television, Webstream Available For SAC Basketball Tournament
ROCK HILL, SC - The 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference men's and women's basketball tournament championship games will air on four cable outlets, while the semifinals and championships will be available to watch live over the Internet.
This year's men's and women's conference championships will be played on Sunday, March 7 at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. Both games will be televised on a tape-delay basis on Comcast/Charter Sports South, Comcast Sports Net, Time Warner Cable in North and South Carolina and Charter Cable outlets in the Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville/Anderson markets.
Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) reaches 5.9 million households across 12 states. The men's championship game will air Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m., while the women's game will air at noon on Tuesday, March 16.
Comcast Sports Net reaches approximately 5.3 million homes and includes both the Philadelphia Network and Mid-Atlantic Network, covering Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, most of New Jersey, and part of Delaware, Washington, D.C., most of Maryland, including Baltimore, and parts of Virginia, including Richmond. A replay time on Comcast Sports Net has not been determined, but viewers should check their local listings.
Time Warner will air the games in North and South Carolina on Time Warner Cable's Carolina On Demand (channel 1234) across the two states and currently reaches approximately 800,000 households. It is a free on demand service so there is no additional charge to watch items, but a digital box is required to watch the On Demand channel.
Comcast/Charter outlets in the Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville/Anderson markets will also offer the games free via Video On Demand.
The games will be produced by Mark-It Productions out of Boiling Springs, S.C. Fred Cunningham, a news anchor and former sports anchor with WSPA in Spartanburg, S.C., will handle the play-by-play for the men's championship game. Tommy Love, a former head coach in the South Atlantic Conference, will handle the color commentary. Eric Thacker, a veteran broadcaster of high school, college, and minor-league baseball games in South Carolina and Ohio, will handle the play-by-play for the women's championship. Brittany Jackson, a former standout player for the University of Tennessee and former professional player in Europe and with the San Jose Spiders of the Women's National Basketball League, will do the color commentary for the women's championship.
All four semifinal games on Saturday and the two championship games on Sunday will also be available to watch live over the Internet. The games will be available through Penn Atlantic www.pennatlantic.com. Fans will need to go to www.pennatlantic.com and register. The registration consists of their e-mail and a password. There is no charge to watch.
The South Atlantic Conference is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the country and strives for academic success and athletic achievement. Since becoming eligible for NCAA Division II postseason play in 1993, the league has sent representatives from all of its sponsored sports to NCAA postseason play.
The South Atlantic Conference has nine member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Member institutions include: Brevard College, Brevard, N.C.; Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn.; Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C.; Lenoir-Rhyne University, Hickory, N.C.; Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tenn.; Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, N.C.; Newberry College, Newberry, S.C.; Tusculum College, Greeneville, Tenn.; and Wingate University, Wingate, N.C. Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. will become the league's tenth member in 2010.
