South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Announces AstroTurf Field Hockey Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announced its AstroTurf Field Hockey Players of the Week for matches played during the week of Oct. 15 through Oct. 21. Coker's Kelly Mason was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Limestone's Cassidy Coates was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Mason, a junior from Canastota, N.Y., led Coker to a pair of conference victories last week, defeating Queens (4-3) and Newberry (5-1). The forward scored two goals, including the game winner, with an assist against Queens, while adding another goal and an assist versus Newberry. For the week she had three goals, with two assists for eight points. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week honor for Mason.
Coates, a senior from Baltimore, Md., led the Saints to conference wins over Newberry (5-2) and Queens (6-1). The defender captained the defense that allowed just three goals and 10 shots on goal in two games. Coates also added a goal and an assist on the offensive front in the win over Queens. This Coates's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
