Wingate's Grant Named 2023 South Atlantic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Trevor Grant was voted the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Grant, graduate student completing his Master of Accounting, holds a 3.97 grade point average and is an eight-time Wingate President's List honoree. This award marks his second South Atlantic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, as he was named the scholar-athlete in 2022. He has appeared on the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the past four years and is a three-time Academic All-District III selection. Grant also earned Academic All-District III honors for track and field while competing during his sophomore year. As a junior, he was selected to serve as a Wingate University Junior Marshal. Throughout his academic career, Grant has earned membership to the International Business Honors society of Delta Mu Delta, the National College Honors Society of Alpha Chi, and the Wingate University Honors Program. His thesis, Impact of Social Media Usage on Business Performance, was published to the Journal of Finance and Accountancy (Volume 32).
On the field, Grant completed his final Bulldog season with 18 catches for 249 yards and one touchdown. He was elected a team captain by his peers and was recognized as an Allstate AFCA Good Works team nominee. For the second year in a row, Grant was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, an award that recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Grant was also a member of the Wingate Baseball and Wingate Track & Field team for one season each.
Grant has been extremely active in the Wingate community, taking on roles with the Wingate Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Wingate Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Wingate Football Team Leadership Council, Matthews Help Center, Wingate Campus Recreation, Wingate Future Bulldog Day, and the United Parcel Service. He also worked as a peer tutor in the Wingate Academic Resource Center and as a teacher assistant/ peer mentor during his sophomore year.
