Lincoln Memorial's Hunt Named South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Baseball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lincoln Memorial's Seth Hunt was voted the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports, and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Hunt, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., holds a 3.84 GPA as a biology pre-medicine major with a chemistry minor. The utility fielder has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and Lincoln Memorial's Dean's List each of his four years. He has earned several academic scholarships, including the Herbert M. McCampbell Scholarship, which is presented to a biology student exhibiting academic excellence, and the Inez and James B. Stiner Scholarship, which is presented to a student from East Tennessee that show scholastic excellence. Following his graduation, Hunt will attend the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial.
"Seth is a model student-athlete and is very deserving of this honor," said Lincoln Memorial head baseball coach Jeff Sziksai. "What he's been able to achieve as a student athlete at LMU has been incredible. Not only is he LMU's all-time hits leader, but he's also pre-med student and will be returning to LMU's Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine next year to start his journey to becoming a doctor. It's been an absolute pleasure coaching him the last four years."
A team captain, Hunt is the Railsplitters program-leader in career hits and runs. He leads the 2019 team in at bats, runs scored, and triples, while he is second in hits, home runs, RBI, total bases, and walks. The second team all-conference selection has been named a SAC AstroTurf Player of the Week and NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week multiple times in his career. He also helped lead the Railsplitters to their third consecutive bid to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional in 2019 as the No. 5 seed.
In addition to his success on the field and in the classroom, Hunt has been an active member of the community. Along with the Railsplitter baseball team, he has participated in the Vs. Cancer initiative for many years, raising money and awareness for childhood cancer. He has also visited pediatric patients at the local hospital and volunteered alongside Habitat for Humanity. During the holiday season, Hunt has participated in ROHO's Christmas shopping sprees, helping local children purchase clothes and toys from Walmart. He has also participated in the Salvation Army Angel Tree, a need-based program providing Christmas assistance to children, a freshman mentorship program, and helped to start a Faith Promise Church on the Lincoln Memorial campus.
