The South Atlantic Conference and AstroTurf Present Senior Spotlights Featuring Queens Lacrosse, Softball and Men's Golf
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – In light of the recent events of the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the remainder of the 2020 South Atlantic Conference spring sports seasons, the SAC along with its corporate partner AstroTurf, will be presenting the SAC AstroTurf Senior Spotlights. These highlights will showcase the spring sports teams at each of our 12 institutions and will give fans a brief overview of the team's shortened season, while highlighting the 2020 senior student-athletes on each team.
We continue our AstroTurf Senior Spotlights with the Queens University of Charlotte Royals and the men's and women's lacrosse, softball, and men's golf teams.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Queens women's lacrosse team closed out the 2020 season with a perfect 5-0 record and a No. 1 national ranking by the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine poll and a No. 2 ranking in the IWLCA coaches' poll. Both rankings were the highest in program history.
The Royals had dominated the competition in 2020 with the No. 2 scoring offense in Division II, averaging 21.40 goals per game. The Royals also picked up a huge win over Florida Southern, 15-14 on March 2. This was the first time that Queens had defeated the Mocs in program history.
Leading the way for the Royals were eight seniors: Allison Conn, Rachel Perrett, Meggan Del Missier, Ally Blood, Maggie Fabean, Taylor Quade, Chase Brokaw, and Haley Anna.
Conn, a midfielder, played in all five games in 2020 scoring nine goals with an assist for 10 points.
Perrett scored 14 goals with seven assists for 21 points from the attack position. She also scooped up nine ground balls.
Del Missier played in three games on defense with a ground ball.
Fabean scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers in five games on defense.
Quade appeared in five games scoring seven goals with four assists for 11 points. She also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers as an attacker.
Blood, the 2019 SAC Player of the Year, scored 15 goals and dished out 15 assists for 30 points as an attacker in 2020. She also had four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Brokaw went 4-0 in the net for the Royals in 2020, making 31 saves and allowing just 7.87 goals per game with a .554 save percentage.
Anna made four appearances in 2020, scoring two goals and scooping up two ground balls as a midfielder.

MEN'S LACROSSE
The Queens men's lacrosse team finished up the shortened 2020 season with a 5-2 record, including wins over No. 16 Lynn, No. 19 Rollins, and a 16-7 win over Coker in its lone SAC game of the season.
As a team, the Royals ranked No. 11 in Division II with 8.86 assists per game.
They were led by 14 seniors: Jared Thompson, Cody Kicsak, Tristan Miller, Eric Fitz, Drew Flack, Conner Davies, Anthony Valenza, A.J. Curtis, Jaret Foote, David Byrne, Kyle Hornik, Mack Tallant, Justin Swick, and Laszio Henning.
Davies played in six games in 2020 as a midfielder. He dished out an assist and scooped up for ground balls.
Flack, a face-off specialist, played in six games for the Royals in 2020 with 51 ground balls.
Hornik, the Royals goalie, started all seven games between the pipes. He made 93 saves, including a career-high 19 versus Rollins, and picked up 10 ground balls.
Valenza was sidelined during the 2020 season.
Miller appeared in three games as a midfielder in 2020 picking up one ground ball.
Tallant played in seven games where he scored two goals and handed out two assists for four points.
Swick played in six games recording eight points on four goals and four assists in 2020.
Bryne played in seven games with six starts in 2020. He scored a goal and had two assists for three points, and he picked up 19 ground balls.
Kicsak played six games on defense for the Royals where he picked up four ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Curtis started all seven games in 2020, scoring two goals and assisting on another for three points. He also scooped up seven ground balls.
Henning scored 10 goals with four assists for 14 points in six games during the 2020 season.
Foote saw action in one game during the 2020 season.
Thompson played in seven games picking up 11 ground balls with three caused turnovers.
Fitz scored seven goals with three assists for 10 points with four ground balls during the 2020 campaign.

SOFTBALL
Queens softball finished 2020 with a 14-15 record, going 0-4 in SAC play. The Royals began play at their new field, Tuckaseegee Dream Fields. A softball and baseball complex located off Tuckasseegee Road in Charlotte; the Tuckaseegee Dream Fields are also home to the Royal baseball team.
The Royal softball team combined for 29 home runs as a team during the 2020 season, with nine players accounting for at least one homer.
Queens was led by five seniors: Kelly Winter, Courtney Pearson, Breanna Martinez, Sabrina Martinez, and Alyssa Strickler.
Winter, a first baseman, batted .263 with four home runs, five doubles, a triple, 13 RBIs, and 17 runs scored.
Pearson went 6-9 in the circle for the Royals in 2020. She threw 85 innings, allowing 65 runs on 90 hits with 78 strikeouts and a 4.45 ERA.
Breanna Martinez posted a .154 batting average with a home run, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored.
Sabrina Martinez closed out 2020 with a .467 batting average, including two doubles, four RBIs, and a run scored.
Strickler batted .308 with four homers, four doubles, a triple, 13 RBIs, and 18 runs scored in 2020.

MEN'S GOLF
The Queens men's golf team closed out 2020 ranked No. 19 in the Division II Golfstat rankings and No. 24 in the Golf Coaches Association of America Poll.
They finished in the top-15 in eight events, including a third place finish at the State Fame Intercollegiate, a fifth place finish at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate and a sixth place finish at the Appalachian State Bash at the Beach.
The Royals were led by senior Rob Webster. He played in 12 rounds in 2020, carding a 74.00 stroke average.
