Converse Captures 2022 South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship Title
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries came away with a hard-fought overtime victory 2-1 over the Mount Olive Trojans to win the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship final this afternoon (Nov. 20). With the win, Converse has won a conference title in back-to-back years. In 2021, the Valkyeries claimed the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas title.
Mount Olive's Railyn King and Converse's Luisa Fasold each scored a goal in the second quarter. With the score sitting tied at 1-1 coming out of the halftime break, neither team could find the back of the net as regulation time came to an end.
Converse's Catalina Pistaccio scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute of overtime play. In goal for Mount Olive, Alanna Barrett completed the game with five saves. Converse held a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Converse's Pistaccio was named MVP of the tournament after scoring the game-winning goal and recording four goals and twelve shots on goal during the tournament.
