South Atlantic Conference Announces 2022 All-Conference Teams and Award Winners for Field Hockey
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its annual field hockey awards on Wednesday (Nov. 16). Converse's Lotte Kanters earned Offensive Player of the Year, Converse's Josephine Jense garnered Defensive Player of the Year, Mount Olive's Nikki Bos was named Freshman of the Year, and Mount Olive's Daan Polders was awarded the Coach of the Year honors.
Kanters, a sophomore from Loosdrecht, Netherlands, leads the SAC and the nation in goals (27), goals per game (1.59), points (62), points per game (3.65), and game-winning goals (7). She recorded at least one point in 16 of 17 games this season with three hat tricks and eight multi-goal games. Her 62 total points is a new SAC single season record. For her offensive efforts she was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Jense, a freshman from Amsterdam, Netherlands, has been the captain and anchor of the Valkyrie defense this season. She is one of two players to have started and played every minute of every game this season. Thanks to her defense, the Valkyries had nine shutouts and a 0.76 goals against average. She also chipped in on the offensive side of the field with a goal and two assists for four points this season. She was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Bos, a freshman from Leusden, Netherlands, had the best statistical season in Mount Olive history. She led the Trojans in goals (13), assists (7), and points (33). She scored four game-winning goals and had two multi-goal performances. Thanks to her talents, Mount Olive is on a 13-game winning streak and is nationally ranked No. 9. She was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week once this season.
Polders led the Trojans to a perfect 12-0 record in league play and to a No. 9 national ranking in just their fourth year of existence. Under his guidance, Mount Olive is ranked in the top-10 national in several statistical categories including, scoring average (3.47), points per game (9.92), shot percentage (0.212), and assists per game (2.62).
