Lions' comeback bid falls short against E&H

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-13, 1-8 SAC) was defeated by Emory & Henry (11-8, 3-7 SAC) by a score of 72-65 Wednesday night.
The Wasps led 61-52 with under eight minutes to play before Mars Hill made their push in the second half. Mars Hill went on a 10-1 run with back-to-back threes from Trey Belin and Jackson Reid to knot the game at 62 with 3:23 left in the contest, forcing the second tie of the ball game.
Emory & Henry responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead and were able to hold on in the final 1:30 of the contest, putting the Lions away by a score of 72-65.
Mars Hill found themselves trailing 33-26 after the first 20 minutes of play. Gabe Brown of E&H led all players with 12 points while Jake Moynihan added six. Kory Davis led the Lions with 11 points followed by Kendall Davis' five in the half.
Brown continued to lead the Wasps with 14 points in the second half, going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Kory Davis led Mars Hill with 13 points as the team shot nearly 52 percent from the floor. Belin netted seven off the bench while Isaiah Jones added six.
Brown led all players with 26 points and added five rebounds. Davis led the Lions with 24 points while Belin collected 10 on the night. Jones led all players with nine rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Saturday, January 28 when they take on Wingate. Tipoff is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
