Mars Hill falls to Tusculum in first game of 2022
The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-9, 4-6 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (10-4, 10-2 SAC) by a score of 69-61 to kickoff the second half of their season.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-9, 4-6 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (10-4, 10-2 SAC) by a score of 69-61 to kickoff the second half of their season.
The score was tied at 37 at the end of the first half. Mars Hill shot nearly 47 percent from the floor and were at 40 percent from beyond the arc. Isayah Johnson led the Lions with seven rebounds in the half while he and Isaiah Jones each added two blocks. Jones and Kadyn Dawkins led the Lions with nine points apiece.
Trenton Gibson led all players in the half with 10 points followed by Brandon Mitchell's seven. Mitchell also collected seven rebounds.
The second half saw the Pioneers go on an 8-0 run to open the half, capitalizing on Lions' turnovers. Gibson continued his strong outing, scoring 15, pulling down five rebounds, and adding three assists. Justus Shelton led the Lions with seven points in the second half followed by Dawkins' five.
Mars Hill shot 38 percent from the floor on the night to the Pioneers' 37. Tusculum collected 53 rebounds, including 22 on the offensive side to the Lions' 39 on the night.
