Lions downed by Wingate on road
The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-14, 1-9 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (13-7, 8-3 SAC) by a score of 107-81 Saturday afternoon on the road.
WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-14, 1-9 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (13-7, 8-3 SAC) by a score of 107-81 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Bulldogs led by 21 after the first 20 minutes of play, 58-37. Sean Elmore went 6-for-6 from beyond the arc to lead all players with 18 points after 20 minutes of play. Destin Clark added 13 as Wingate shot over 62 percent from the floor.
Mars Hill shot 50 percent in the first half and were led by Isaiah Jones and Jackson Reid's eight points apiece. Kory and Kendall Davis each added seven.
Both teams continued to shoot well in the second half, each clicking at over 50 percent. Sasha Letino led all players with 12 points off the bench, going 5-for-5 in seven minutes of second half play.
Jones and Kendall Davis led the Lions with nine points while Kory Davis and Dominic Strother added six apiece.
The Bulldogs shot 59 percent in the contest, hitting 13 three-pointers. Elmore led all players with 20 points followed by 19 from Clark.

Mars Hill returns to the court on Wednesday, February 1 when they take on UVA Wise on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
