YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-2) defeated Young Harris (0-3) by a score of 82-72 in overtime on the road for their first win of the season.
Young Harris, in the waning seconds of regulation, hit two free throws to tie the game at 64, forcing overtime.
Mars Hill dominated the overtime frame, hitting all five shots from the floor and hitting three three-pointers and outscoring Young Harris 18-8. Kendall Davis led the Lions with seven points in the frame, hitting both three-point attempts. Both London Maiden and Ji'lil Michael added four points. Michael led all players in the overtime frame with three rebounds.
Young Harris led 33-30 after the first 20 minutes of play. The duo of Carl Cleveland and Cole Deptula led all players with 10 points. The trio of Davis, Kadyn Dawkins, and Rajuan Conner led the Lions with five points apiece. Conner led all players with seven rebounds while Davis led all players with four assists.
The second half saw the Lions hit 44 percent of their shots, outscoring Young Harris, 34-31. Dawkins led the Lions with eight points while Davis added six assists and five points. Conner netted seven points and collected six rebounds to complete the double-double.
Mars Hill hit 46 percent of their shots on the night while hitting 13 three-pointers. Davis led the Lions with 17 points and 10 assists for the double-double. Conner ended the night with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Three more Lions ended the night in double-figures as Dawkins added 16 points, Maiden with 13, and Michael with 12.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday, November 18 when they face Erskine. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
