Kennedy ties MHU record, Lions rout Emmanuel

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (4-1) defeated Emmanuel (1-4) by a score of 20-9 Saturday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
The Lions led 10-5 at the end of the first half. Mars Hill scored seven goals in the first quarter as Trevor Kennedy recorded a hat-trick with three goals followed by Zac Carrigan's two. Austin Stroud had three points (1g, 2a) in the frame.
In the lowest scoring stanza that saw both teams combine for four goals, Carrigan netted a pair while Braden Hoskyn scored the other Mars Hill tally.
Despite giving up the first goal of the third quarter, Mars Hill reeled off five straight goals, all scored by Kennedy. Stroud picked up two assists in the run while Justin Lundy assisted on one. Lundy later scored in the quarter, putting Mars Hill up 16-7 at the time.
Kennedy's second goal of the fourth quarter tied Carrigan's record-setting mark for 10 goals in a game. His assist on Carrigan's fifth of the day gave Kennedy 12 points on the day, one point shy of tying Carrigan's record.
Kennedy led all players with 12 points (10g, 2a) followed by Carrigan's seven (5g, 2a). Stroud ended the day with six points (1g, 5a).
Frankie Villeneuve won 21-of-29 faceoffs while Steven Smith made 13 saves on the day in just under 55 minutes of play to earn his fourth straight win.
Mars Hill opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, March 5 when they face Tusculum on the road. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
