Lions fall to Pioneers in SAC opener

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (4-2, 0-1 SAC) fell to Tusculum (7-0, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 16-9 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The teams entered the second quarter tied at four. Mars Hill got two goals from Zac Carrigan and one apiece from Trevor Kennedy and Brandon Woodward. The trio would account for all goals scored in the contest. Austin Stroud assisted on Kennedy's goal that opened the scoring 5:40 into the game.
Tusculum netted five in the second quarter from five different goal scorers. Kale Lawrence scored one and picked up two assists in the frame while Wesley Phillips picked up two points (1g, 1a).
The second half saw the Pioneers outscore Mars Hill 7-3 as Lawrence, Lorenz Brown, and Nate Raymond each scored two apiece.
Phillips led all players with seven points (2g, 5a) followed by Lawrence's six (4g, 2a). Carrigan led the Lions with four points (3g, 1a) while Kennedy and Woodward each recorded a hat-trick, scoring three goals apiece.
Ross Geiger made 17 saves for the win while Steven Smith made 10 saves, suffering his first loss of the year.
Mars Hill returns home on Saturday, March 12 when they host Anderson. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
