Dawkins nets season-high 26 in SAC opener against Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-6, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (4-1, 2-0 SAC) by a score of 88-65 Saturday afternoon on the road in their South Atlantic Conference opener.
The Indians scored 44 points in each half. Shooting nearly 58 percent from the floor in the first, Catawba carried a 16-point lead into the second half. Montraivis White led the team with 10 points followed by seven from both DeAngelo Epps and Dre Nelson.
Kadyn Dawkins led the Lions with 11 points, hitting three three-pointers in the half. Marcus Rodgers and Kendall Davis each scored four points for Mars Hill in the first half.
Dawkins led all players in the second half, scoring 15 of the Lions' 37 points. He converted 13 of 14 free throw attempts in the final 20 minutes of play. Aljaz Vidmar led all players with six rebounds in the half.
The Indians shot 52 percent on the game with Epps leading the team with 16 points followed by 15 from Javeon Jones and 13 from White.
Dawkins led all players with 26 points while Vidmar led all players with nine rebounds. London Maiden ended the contest with eight points and five rebounds.
Mars Hill returns home on Monday, December 11 when they host Benedict in non-conference play. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
