Lions felled by King in non-conference play

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-28) was defeated by King (12-21) by a score of 15-6 Tuesday afternoon.
Mars Hill led 3-1 after the first inning with Zach Weaver opening the scoring with a RBI single to left. He, along with Silas Isenhour, were later brought home off of Dawson Connell's two-run double.
King's offense heated up in the second and third innings, scoring nine runs over the two frames. In the second, the Tornado plated four highlighted by RBI doubles from Davis Hall and Junior Renwick.
In the third, they scored five runs, highlighted by Wes Bonney's two-run double. Mars Hill plated two in the fifth to cut the deficit in half, 10-5. Weaver collected his second RBI of the game with a single to left while Luke Hayes, later in the stanza, plated Weaver with a single down the left field line.
In the bottom of the seventh and for the second time in the game, the Tornado scored five runs. After RBI singles from Hall and Renwick, Matthew Swigert brought home two with a single up the middle, extending their lead to nine runs. Chase Hilliard tacked on King's 15th run of the game with a RBI single through the right side.
Chris Bleeker plated the final run of the game in the top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly that scored Chapel Matson.
Weaver led the Lions with two hits and two RBI. Connell added two RBI for Mars Hill.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference play as they open up their weekend series against Emory & Henry on Friday, April 7. First pitch at Henderson Field is set for 2 p.m.
