Mars Hill falls in OT against Wolves

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (2-15, 1-9 SAC) was defeated in overtime by Newberry (4-11, 3-7 SAC) by a score of 97-84 Wednesday night on the road.
The Wolves, who trailed by four entering the second half, evened it up at 78 before the regulation buzzer sounded, forcing the overtime period. They shot 61 percent from the floor, hitting 5-of-10 three pointers. James Lovorn hit four of those attempts and led Newberry with 14 points in the half. Drake Downs added 10, going 5-of-6 from the floor.
Kory Davis led the Lions with 12 points followed by nine from Kadyn Dawkins. Kendall Davis led all players in the half with five rebounds.
In the overtime frame, Newberry hit 8-of-9 shots to outscore the Lions 19-6 as Downs led the team with six.
Mars Hill led 39-35 entering the half as Dawkins paced the offense with 12 points. Kendall Davis netted seven followed by six from Caleb Mauldin. Mauldin led all players with eight rebounds in the half.
Lovorn led all players with 30 points while Downs and Malik Joseph each added 20 apiece. Jalen Johnson added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Dawkins led Mars Hill with 23 points while Kory Davis ended the night with 20. Mauldin scored 13 and pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 when they take on Tusculum. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
