JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-9, 1-7 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (9-2, 7-1 SAC) by a score of 101-62 Wednesday night.
The Eagles scored 61 points in the first half, including a game-high 36 in the first 10 minutes of play. They shot 63 percent from the floor in the stanza and converted 10 of their 11 free throw attempts.
In a more tightly contested second quarter, the Lions shot over 40 percent from the floor with De'Ja Marshall recording 10 of the Lions' 18 points in the frame.
Braelyn Wykle scored 14 points in the third quarter as the Eagles outscored the Lions 25-8. Carson-Newman shot 40 percent from the floor and pulled down 21 rebounds in the third.
Mars Hill outscored the Eagles 20-15 in the final 10 minutes of play as Zanah Boyd went 4-for-4 from the floor, netting nine points.
Carson-Newman shot nearly 46 percent from the floor to the Lions' 33 on the night. They outrebounded Mars Hill 64-35.
