Lions downed by Anderson in afternoon tilt

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-12, 0-8 SAC) fell to Anderson (12-2, 7-1 SAC) by a score of 97-67 Saturday afternoon at home.
Both of the first two quarters saw Anderson double up the Lions by scores of 20-10 and 28-14, respectively. The Trojans shot just under 50 percent, converting on 33 percent of their three-point opportunities.
After the Lions jumped out to an early 5-0, Anderson responded with a 14-0 run to blow the game open. The reigning SAC Player of the Year, Alexy Mollenhauer had five points in the run. Mollenhauer led all players with 15 points in the first half, pulling down nine rebounds. Gabby Gianikos led the Lions with seven rebounds while De'Ja Marshall led the team with seven points.
The second half saw a more complete effort from Mars Hill, only being outscored 49-43. The third quarter's balanced attack was led by Marshall's five points and four points apiece from Alexis Pardue and Tatum Boggs. Marshall also pulled down five rebounds.
In the fourth quarter, Anderson's 25 points all came from the bench with Jalyn Spurlin and Xan Rowland leading the way with six apiece. Boggs led the Lions with six in the frame while Gianikos and Marshall each added four.
Mollenhauer led all players with 21 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. Marshall paced the Lions' offense with 16 points followed by Boggs' 10 on the afternoon.
The Lions return to the road when they travel to Harrogate, Tennessee on Wednesday, January 15 to take on the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
