CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-14, 0-10 SAC) was defeated by a score of 73-39 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Royals pulled away from Mars Hill early in the first quarter, opening the quarter on a 10-2 run with Kristian Eanes recording four points during the stretch. The Lions responded on an 8-0 run of their own to knot the game at 10 with under three minutes remaining in the frame. A Royals' 6-0 run closed out the opening 10 minutes as Queens led 16-10.
The second quarter was highlighted by a Royals' 13-0 run that blew the game open to 31-14 with just over a minute remaining in the half. Kelsey Leedle had nine points after 20 minutes to lead Queens while De'Ja Marshall led the Lions with eight.
Queens outscored Mars Hill 42-22 in the second half with Julia Raflund leading the team, scoring 10 in the final 20 minutes of play. Marshall paced the Lions' offense with six points followed by Selby Baughman's five in the fourth quarter.
Eanes ended the game with 17 followed by Raflund's 16 on the day. Marshall led the Lions with 16 points.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, January 22 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is schedulded for 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
