WINGATE, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Wingate Bulldog's took down the Anderson Trojan's in a five-set thriller to take home the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Spring Tournament Championship on Saturday (Apr. 10).
Each set was a tight back and forth battle from start to finish with the Bulldog's pulling away in the fifth set with the final scores of (27-25, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 6-15).
Wingate's Shannon Kasprak was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She had 39 assists, 18 digs and three service aces in the win. Teammates Sutphin, Lambillotte and Schaff all registered double figure kills. In addition, Libero Courtney Niesen came up with 21 digs, with Maggie Mullen right behind with 20. Leading the team in blocks was sophomore Maggie Young registering seven.
For the Trojan's Maya Learmonth came up with 12 kills while teammates Alexandra Petrilli added 19 digs and Madison Roy dished out 37 assists.
In addition to Kasprak's MVP honors, a seven-member All-Tournament team was named.
