Wingate Sweeps 2025 SAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wingate Bulldogs were crowned the 2025 SAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Champions at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday afternoon. Wingate's men totaled 191 points, while the women earned 172.5. Lenoir-Rhyne came away with second place finishes across both genders.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Kahlil West earned 25 points to take home the Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet while Carson-Newman's Amine Kasmi was the Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet thanks to his 12 points. C-N's Rylan Jordan was the Freshman of the Year while Jackie Kirby of Wingate took home the Men's Coach of the Year honor.
For the individual winners on the women's side, Ashley Parrish of Lincoln Memorial was named the Field Athlete of the Meet and Catawba's Eden Barnwell garnered Freshman of the Year honors. A trio of student-athletes scored 20 points to split the Track Athlete of the Meet which consisted of Mia Cabrera from Wingate and Melody Jones and Alexis Brown of Lenoir-Rhyne. Lenoir-Rhyne's Paris Vaughn was voted as the Women's Coach of the Year.
On the women's side, Mia Cabrera of Wingate set the meet record in the one mile, blazing the event in a time of 4:45.20. She shattered the record by over 14 seconds. In the 400m, Sharonda Priester of Lenoir-Rhyne set a new meet mark with a time of 55.92 to earn gold. Priester's teammate Alexis Brown earned two gold medals and set the meet record in the 200m with a time of 23.71 which topped her own mark in the event last year. Wingate continued to dominate the distance events, taking the top five spots in the 3000m to earn a commanding lead over the field. Wingate's Ennessey Sorrells also broke the meet record in the triple jump with a leap of 11.87m and in the high jump by Assiya Elhafyan at 1.68m.
Lincoln Memorial would take third place as a team behind Wingate and LR.
The men's day started with Kahlil West of LR earning gold in the 60m hurdles with teammate Oliver Thatcher grabbing second. Wingate's distance runners claimed the top six spots and seven of the top nine in the mile run. Catawba's Miles Stephens broke the meet record in the 60m with a time of 6.65. In fact, all three top finishers in the 60m broke the meet record but Stephens came away with the top spot. Wingate's Aleix Lago took down the record in the 800m, finishing in 1:52.74. The Bulldogs had the top five, including a meet-best time of 8:03.31 by Lars Laros in the 3000m to put more distance between themselves and the field. Mars Hill's Jesse Shelton broke the meet record in the shot put with a throw of 18.22m to earn gold.
Carson-Newman would take third as a team behind Wingate and LR.
