Newberry's Tomkins Named SAC WePlayed Sports Women's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry forward Jess Tompkins has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played during week six of the 2024-25 season, the Conference announced today.
Tomkins, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, led Newberry to a 2-0 week. Tomkins went off against Lincoln Memorial in a 61-49 overtime victory, erupting for 31 points – more than half of the team's total – and playing in all 45 minutes in the win. She shot 15-of-23 against the Railsplitters and pulled down 11 rebounds to go with two steals and three blocks in the win. In a 58-52 win over UVA Wise, Tomkins totaled 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added seven boards and four assists. For the week, she shot 64 percent from the floor and averaged 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1 steal per game.
