Carrigan, Wall Lead Bears past Wingate in Extra Innings to Advance
Wingate, N.C.-- Cassidy Wall's two-out, RBI single in the 8th inning gave the Bears a 2-1 win over Wingate in the Winner's Bracket of the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday. Faith Carrigan went the distance in the circle as the Freshman spun a gem in her second career start. Carrigan held No. 17 Wingate to just one earned run in the complete game. The Bears will now move on to the Championship game tomorrow at 1:00 PM and will have to be beaten twice. With one win, Bears will punch their ticket into the Super Regional.
Maness ninth-inning walk-off sends Wingate to day three of NCAA Regionals
Wingate, N.C.----The second-seeded and 17th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs played 17 innings of softball Friday afternoon, dropping the opener 2-1 in eight innings against Lenoir-Rhyne before winning 7-6 in nine innings against Francis Marion in an elimination game. The 'Dogs move to 46-16 on the season, advancing to day three of the regional Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne. Wingate will need a pair of victories against the Bears to advance to the super regionals.
Matyasovsky's big blast not enough, FMU ousts C-N from regionals
WINGATE, N.C. – Carson-Newman (31-18) got a late-inning blast from Brooke Matyasovksy (Orange, Conn.) but it wasn't enough to overcome Francis Marion (42-12) in a 5-3 decision in an elimination game Friday afternoon at the Wingate Softball Complex. While the Eagles were 4-for-12 with runners on base, C-N struggled to get hits with runners in scoring position. The Eagles were just 1-for-6 with runners on second or third. The Eagles were retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the season.
@LMU_Softball Season Ends in Southeast Regional
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team entered the final inning tied with King, but the Tornado prevailed 6-2 in the NCAA Tournament Southeast Regional Friday afternoon.
The loss for the Lady Railsplitters ended their season at 36-25, highlighted by defeating the Top 2 seeds in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament to claim the title for a 2nd straight year.
Lincoln Memorial starting pitcher Hayley Tamaro was cruising until King (36-23) scored 4 times in the Top of the 7th to take control of the game. Kelsie Tuggle (RBI double) and Reese Vivrette (fielder's choice) put balls in play in the 3rd and 4th innings that led to game-tying tallies for the Lady Railsplitters.
