Lincoln Memorial's Henry and Carson-Newman's Rogers Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lincoln Memorial's McKenzie Henry was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Carson-Newman's Syerra Rogers was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week two of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.
Henry, a graduate student catcher from Louisville, Tenn., hit .762 (16-for-21) with four doubles, two triples, two homeruns, 13 RBI and eight runs scored in eight games on the week, during which Lincoln Memorial went 7-1. She went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored in the weekend-capping 11-0 win over Delta State on Sunday.
Rogers, a sophomore pitcher from Graysville, Tenn., became the first Carson-Newman pitcher to throw a no-hitter since the opening game of the 2019 Southeast Regional. She recorded nine strikeouts, walked three, and hit one in five innings of work in the nightcap to run-rule Shorter 13-0 on Sunday. She recorded the first five outs of the game two via strikeouts before the Hawks put a ball into play, and only one ball was hit beyond the infield.
