HARROGATE TENN. - The fourth seeded Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters finished off a thrilling conference campaign upsetting No.1 Anderson in the semifinal and topping Carson-Newman in the championship game. The Railsplitters downed the Eagles in the final game 9-7, bringing their record to 35-18 overall this season.
Lincoln Memorial took a 2-1 lead after the first inning only giving up three points to the Eagles before taking it away in the fifth and sixth innings.The Railsplitters bring home their first ever SAC Championship on home soil.
Individually, Grace Cochran scored three times while teammate Shelby Blake, scored twice. Madison Henry, Victoria Mounce, Emma Webb and Bella Buccellato scored the remaining four runs. On the mound for the Railsplitters was Hayley Tamaro and Emma Frost, who together struck out six after facing 33 batters while only walking one. Sierra Hucklebee sealed the deal after a two-run double leading them to their 9-7 victory.
By virtue of the title, Lincoln Memorial has earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for May 9th at 10am. and at that time the Railsplitters will learn of their destination and seed. The rest of the SAC teams will await to hear of their postseason fate as well.
The All-Tournament team and Most Valuable Player will be announced on Tuesday.
