NCAA Releases Final Week of Division II Softball Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Six South Atlantic Conference softball teams were named in the third week of the NCAA Division II southeast region rankings. Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial, and Coker are ranked No. 2 through No. 4. Wingate and Newberry are No. 6 and No. 7, while Lenoir-Rhyne rounds out the list at No. 10. This is the final list before the championship selection show on Monday at 10 a.m. The No. 1 seeds for each region will be announced within one hour of the show on Twitter by @NCAADII.
The Eagles (28-10, 11-9 SAC) finished the SAC Championship as the runner-up after downing Queens and regionally-ranked Coker.
The Railsplitters (35-13, 12-8 SAC) went into the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed for the first time in program history, but were upset by the eventual champions in the semifinals.
The Cobras (31-17, 9-10 SAC) advanced to the semifinals after upsetting regionally-ranked Wingate in a 15-4 run-rule affair, but were knocked out by nationally-ranked Carson-Newman.
The Bulldogs (32-17, 11-9 SAC) were upset in the opening round of the SAC Championship by regionally-ranked Coker in five innings.
The Wolves (29-16, 11-9 SAC) lost to the eventual champions in the first round of the conference tournament in an upset.
The Bears (26-19, 9-10 SAC) lost to regionally-ranked Lincoln Memorial in the quarterfinals.
