Three SAC Softball Teams Nationally Ranked in NFCA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their 2019 week three poll on Wednesday, March 6. Carson-Newman climbed to No. 7 as the only returner to the rankings, while Wingate and Newberry joined at No. 21 and No. 25, respectively.
The Eagles have started the season with a perfect 13-0 record and are the only undefeated team on the poll and in the conference. Carson-Newman leads the SAC in homeruns (22), slugging percentage (.590), least strikeouts (46), in a tie for shutouts (5), and earned run average (1.55).
The Bulldogs have won 16 in a row after starting 2019 with two losses and is ranked for the first time since the 2015 season. Wingate leads the conference with eight triples, 15 sacrifice hits, batting average (.362), tied first in shutouts with five, and batting average against (.171).
The Wolves enter national prominence with a 17-3 record, winning their last four. Newberry tops in the SAC in sacrifice flies (9) and stolen bases (43).
The 2019 NFCA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA's eight regions.
