Lincoln Memorial Sweeps AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played during Feb. 18 through Feb. 24. Lincoln Memorial claimed both the player accolades and garnered the pitching honors with Ty-Kella Goins and Justice Smith, respectively.

A junior infielder, Goins led the Railsplitters to a 3-1 week by hitting .692, an on-base percentage of .733, and a slugging percentage of 1.385. The Ramseur, N.C. native had nine runs off of nine hits, including two homeruns, a double, and a triple. She also drove in three runners, walked twice, and stole a base. In the doubleheader with Milligan, Goins went a perfect 5-for-5. The Railsplitters also claimed a game over No. 18 Young Harris for their third win of the week. She leads the SAC in runs scored, doubles, and triples. She is also second in total bases and batting average and third in hits. This is Goins's first Player of the Week honor of the season.

Smith, a junior right-handed pitcher, finished the week with a 0.55 earned run average in her two appearances, including a complete game shutout of No. 18 Young Harris. In 12.2 innings of action, the Rockmark, Ga. native relented just one run, 10 hits, and five walks. She struck out seven and assisted on three putouts, including catching a runner stealing. This is Smith's first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
