Carson-Newman Softball Ranked Nationally in NFCA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their 2019 week one poll on Wednesday (Feb. 20). Carson-Newman skyrocketed to No. 11, after being unranked, to make their first appearance of the season on the national list.
The Eagles have started the season with a perfect 9-0 record, including a sweep of nationally-ranked Young Harris (1-0 and 3-2). The Tennessee team has also completed four shutouts in their wins. Junior infielder Abby Fiessinger is the reigning SAC Player of the Week after going 8-for-9 over a three game span, collecting a double, two homeruns, and bringing five runners across the plate. She averaged an .889/.889/1.667 slashline.
Carson-Newman's left-handed pitcher Lacie Rinus was named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Top-50 National Player of the Year Watch List earlier this month.
The 2019 NFCA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA's eight regions.
