Wingate’s Saliga, Houser Earn SAC Softball Weekly Awards
With their team set to compete at this week’s Food Lion SAC Softball Championship, Wingate catcher Kayla Saliga and pitcher Stacey Houser have been voted as the conference’s weekly award winners, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – With their team set to compete at this week's Food Lion SAC Softball Championship, Wingate catcher Kayla Saliga and pitcher Stacey Houser have been voted as the conference's weekly award winners, it was announced on Tuesday.
Saliga led the Bulldogs to a perfect 6-0 week – which included double-header sweeps over Catawba and Mars Hill - by hitting .421 in 19 at bats. She had hits in all but one of the games, including two hits on three occasions.
The sophomore homered on Wednesday in a 2-0 WU win over Catawba and again on Sunday in a 12-5 victory at Limestone. She also hit three doubles on the week and finished with seven RBI.
Saliga finished the regular season with a .321 batting average, eight extra-base hits and 32 RBI. Wingate is 15-2 this season in games she has started.

Houser earned victories in four of Wingate's six games last week, finishing with a 1.35 ERA in 31 innings pitched. All four wins were complete games, including a one-hit shutout in Wednesday's matchup with Catawba.
The freshman struck out 19 batters on the week, including seven on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Mars Hill and six on Sunday in a 4-2 victory against Limestone.
Houser is 20-10 this season with a 1.69 ERA and 127 strikeouts. She leads the conference with 27 complete games.
