SAC Names Wingate's Whitley, Catawba's Tysinger Softball Players of the Week
Wingate junior Hayley Whitley and Catawba freshman Carley Tysinger have been voted as the SAC Softball Players of the Week for games played April 1 through 7, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate junior Hayley Whitley and Catawba freshman Carley Tysinger have been voted as the SAC Softball Players of the Week for games played April 1 through 7, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Whitley led Wingate to a 5-1 week by pounding out 12 hits in 21 at-bats to finish with a .571 average. She started the week by going 5-for-7 with five RBI in a double-header sweep of Belmont Abbey, and then had three hits in a double-header with Brevard and four more in a pair of games with Tusculum.
The second baseman had multiple hits in four games, including three-hit performances on Monday against Belmont Abbey and on Saturday versus Tusculum. She also hit a home run on Wednesday in a 9-3 WU victory over Brevard.
Whitley's week also included four runs scored and a walk. She is currently hitting .303 with 29 RBI on the season.

Tysinger continued her standout freshman season for Catawba, earning victories in all four of the Indians' games while compiling a 0.27 ERA. All of the victories came against conference opponents.
In a double-header at Brevard on Tuesday, Tysinger threw a combined 12 innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out 10. Then in a double-header at Mars Hill on Saturday, the Lexington, N.C. native allowed one run on nine hits in 13.2 innings, striking out 15.
Tysinger currently leads the SAC with 22 wins, a 1.10 ERA and 263 strikeouts.
