SAC Names Carson-Newman’s Hefner, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Hoskins Softball Players of the Week
Carson-Newman junior Brittany Hefner has been named the SAC Softball Player of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Maryann Hoskins was voted as the conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman junior Brittany Hefner has been named the SAC Softball Player of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Maryann Hoskins was voted as the conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Hefner continue her torrid start to the season by hitting .571 with eight hits and eight RBI in four games for the Eagles last week. She had multiple hits in three of the four games, including a two-home run, seven-RBI performance on Wednesday in a loss at Columbus St.
The shortstop struck out only once on the week while posting an on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of 1.071.
Hefner currently leads the SAC with a .451 batting average, 11 home runs and 49 RBI.
Hoskins clinched a double-header sweep for Lenoir-Rhyne over Anderson on Friday by pitching a complete-game three-hit shutout. She struck out six in the game while walking none.
On the season, Hoskins 6-2 overall along with a pair of saves. Her 68 strikeouts rank third in the conference.
