Wingate Duo Selected as SAC Softball Players of the Week
Wingate shortstop Alexis Burrell and pitcher Stacey Houser have been named the SAC Softball Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate shortstop Alexis Burrell and pitcher Stacey Houser have been named the SAC Softball Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Burrell hit .400 in four games last week for the Bulldogs, piling up seven RBI in the process. Her biggest performance came in the week's first game, a 6-0 victory over Pfeiffer in which she went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI. Burrell went on to homer again in the second game of the Pfeiffer double-header, a 5-4 WU loss.
Later in the week, Burrell picked up a key RBI in a victory over No. 4 North Georgia on Saturday as Wingate won, 4-2.
Burrell ranks second in the conference with seven home runs and second in RBI with 22.

Houser earned complete-game victories in WU's wins over Pfeiffer and North Georgia, allowing only two runs while striking out 13 in the starts. On Thursday against Pfeiffer, the freshman threw a two-hit shutout, striking out seven hitters while walking none.
She followed that performance by allowing just the two runs on five hits while striking out six on Saturday against nationally-ranked North Georgia.
Houser is currently second in the SAC with a 1.08 ERA.
