SAC Selects Carson-Newman’s Hefner, Catawba’s Tysinger as Softball Weekly Award Winners
Carson-Newman shortstop Brittany Hefner has been named the SAC Softball Player of the Week and Catawba’s Carley Tysinger the league’s Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman shortstop Brittany Hefner has been named the SAC Softball Player of the Week and Catawba's Carley Tysinger the league's Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Hefner led Carson-Newman to two victories over Lees-McRae and two wins over Concord by hitting .538 with five extra-base hits and 13 RBI. She had a 1.462 slugging percentage on the week and didn't strike out in 13 at-bats.
Hefner opened her week with a huge game against Lees-McRae, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and a triple as the Eagles rolled, 12-2. The junior had eight RBI in the game, which matched a school record.
She also closed the week with a big performance, going 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI in a 9-1 win over Concord on Saturday.
Hefner currently leads the SAC with seven home runs and 34 RBI, and ranks third with a .473 batting average.

Tysinger, meanwhile, earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third-straight week by going 3-0 with a 0.30 ERA and 30 strikeouts in three starts.
Tysinger kicked off her week by throwing a complete-game one-hitter against Barton, striking out 10 in a 2-0 Catawba victory.
She then started two games on Sunday, the first being a nine-inning shutout of Le Moyne in which she fanned 12. The freshman followed that up with another complete game victory against fourth-ranked North Georgia, striking out eight while allowing just a single earned run.
On the season, Tysinger is 8-0 with a conference-leading 0.33 ERA and 88 strikeouts.
