First SAC Softball Weekly Awards go to Wingate’s Burrell, Catawba’s Tysinger
Wingate senior Alexis Burrell and Catawba freshman Carley Tysinger have been named 2013's first SAC softball weekly awards winners. Burrell was selected as the league's Player of the Week, while Tysinger earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate senior Alexis Burrell and Catawba freshman Carley Tysinger have been named 2013's first SAC softball weekly awards winners. Burrell was selected as the league's Player of the Week, while Tysinger earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Burrell helped Wingate go 4-2 last week by hitting .500 with five extra-base hits and five RBI. She had multiple hits in two games, including a 4-for-4 performance last Tuesday in a 7-5 win over Erskine that included three runs scored, two doubles and a home run.
The shortstop scored six runs on the week and recorded three walks to finish with an on-base percentage of .632.
She currently leads the SAC with a .619 batting average and ranks second with 10 RBI.

Tysinger opened her collegiate career by allowing just one run in 19 innings pitched last week as Catawba went 3-1.
After recording a save on Thursday in Catawba's 10-8 win at Queens, Tysinger got the start on Saturday at USC Aiken, allowing just one run in a complete game while striking out 10. She followed that with a complete-game shutout on Sunday against Mount Olive in which she struck out nine batters.
Overall, Tysinger tallied 28 strikeouts and gave up just six hits on the week. She leads the SAC in opponent batting average at .103, and her 28 strikeouts are tied for the conference lead.
