Five SAC Softball Teams In NCAA Southeast Region Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS -- The latest NCAA Division II softball regional rankings were released Wednesday, with five South Atlantic Conference teams ranked among the top 10 in the Southeast Region.
Lenoir-Rhyne University is ranked second, behind North Georgia, which is the top-ranked team in the NFCA national poll.
while Mars Hill College is ranked seventh, followed by Wingate University in eighth and Newberry College in 10th.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament, competing in 16 four-team regional tournaments, beginning May 14. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites.
In the Southeast Region, tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Lenoir-Rhyne won the Food Lion SAC Tournament and earned the automatic bid. From the Peach Belt, top-seed North Georgia secured their automatic bid by winning the Peach Belt tournament. Queens University earned the automatic bid from Conference Carolinas by winning their tournament. Five at-large teams will make up the rest of the region field.
Tournament selections will be announced on Monday, May 10, at 10 a.m. via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.
