Lenoir-Rhyne’s Rivers, Millwood Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kat Rivers has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne's Dawon Millwood earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 8, announced conference officials Tuesday. Rivers wins the award for the second week in a row.
Rivers, a junior shortstop from Royston, Ga. (Franklin County HS), batted .458 (11-of-24) with five home runs and 10 runs batted in leading Lenoir-Rhyne to a 7-0 week including all five wins at the Mid-South Classic this past weekend in Spartanburg, S.C. She started off the week with a solo home run against Limestone in a 5-0 win Wednesday on the road before hitting a home run in three consecutive games at the classic in Spartanburg, S.C. In a 12-3 win over Limestone Saturday, Rivers hit a round-tripper to go along with four runs batted in before hitting two home runs in a 4-3 victory over East Stroudsburg Saturday night. Rivers, an all-conference and all-region pick last season, currently leads L-R (17-2) in batting average (.477), runs scored (27), home runs (nine), runs batted in (20) and slugging percentage (.969).
Millwood, a sophomore from Hixson, Tenn. (Hixson HS), went 3-0 with a 0.30 earned run average to go along with 23 strikeouts. Millwood also threw shutouts last week against Limestone (5-0) on Wednesday and against Belmont Abbey (5-0) and Fairmont State (6-0) on Saturday and Sunday in the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. Millwood, a 2009 All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, is 7-1 on the season with a team-leading 0.72 earned run average and 76 strikeouts.
