Wingate’s Barrineau, Blankenship Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Brittany Barrineau has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Wingate's Brittany Blankenship earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending February 22, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Barrineau, a sophomore catcher from Monroe, N.C. (Piedmont HS), hit .476 for the week with two homers and 15 RBI helping the Bulldogs to an 8-0 week. Barrineau had a .952 slugging percentage and .593 on base percentage. She had a double, homer and four RBI in a win over Queens. Barrineau had a grand slam in a victory over Erskine. She was two-for-two with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored at Belmont Abbey. She followed that by going three-for-four with three RBI in the night cap. She drove in a pair of runs in the win over St. Andrews. She leads the team with a .533 batting average, three homers, five doubles and 19 RBI on the year.

Blankenship, a sophomore right-hander from Midlothian, Va. (Midlothian HS) went 4-0 on the week. The 2009 First Team All-SAC selection posted a 0.88 ERA, striking out 27 batters in 24 innings of work while walking only two. She went the distance against Queens, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven. She followed that by allowing a run on four hits against Erskine with eight strikeouts. Blankenship struck out nine while allowing a run on four hits at Belmont Abbey. She capped her week by tossing three hitless innings in the win over St. Andrews, while striking out three. Blankenship is 5-1 on the season with a team-best 0.76 ERA. She leads the team with 40 strikeouts and has walked only four batters in 37 innings of work.
