Carson-Newman’s Jessie Howard, Catawba’s Chelsea Wallace Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman's Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Catawba's Chelsea Wallace (Danville, Ky.) have been named the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Howard batted .357 for the week in leading C-N to a 4-0 record with sweeps of Tusculum and Newberry. The junior shortstop came through with a pair of bases-loaded hits against Newberry to spark the Lady Eagles. She delivered a two-out, two-run single in 4-1 win in game one. She followed with a bases-clearing double in a 7-2 win in game two.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native added an inside-the-park home run and a two-run triple in an 11-3 win against Tusculum on Wednesday.

Wallace won both of her starts on the week, firing Catawba past Mars Hill and Tusculum in SAC play. The freshman tossed a pair of complete games, allowing only an unearned run on four hits in a 6-1 win at Mars Hill on Wednesday. She followed with a one-hit shutout of Tusculum on Friday in 2-0 win.
For the week, Wallace allowed only six hits and one unearned run in 15.2 innings of work, while striking out five.
The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
