Catawba’s MacKenzie White, Wingate’s Allison Smith Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba College designated player/first baseman MacKenzie White has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week and Wingate University's Allison Smith earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honors league officials announced Tuesday.
White, a native of Mt. Ulla, N.C., led Catawba to a 2-0 record as she went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs. The 5-8 sophomore designated player blasted a grand slam in Catawba's first game against Anderson, a 9-3 win. In game two of the doubleheader, White went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double and a single.

Smith, a 5-10 sophomore, earned a pair of wins on the week as she tossed two complete games, striking out 25 batters and compiling a 1.00 ERA. The Daleville, Va. native allowed 10 hits in 14 innings of work, while giving up two earned runs and walking only four. Smith improved her record to 7-1 with a 0.58 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work this season.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
